Student Fare - Owen Jankes

I can still remember the first time I walked into the school TV studio at Amherst Tech TV. The glow of the lights and the expensive equipment had me hooked right away.

From that day on, I have been coming into the studio every morning to help with the Amherst Tech TV Morning Show. I have developed numerous skills such as teamwork, responsibility and dependability.

I would usually start on the easier tasks, and slowly work up the courage to try tasks that are more difficult. Some of the harder tasks include computer and producer. The person working the computer types the script and controls all of the actions for the show. Producer makes sure everyone is doing what he or she is supposed to be doing and making the entire show run smoothly. My success at these jobs eventually made me very confident in my work. I now understand most steps of video production. Most of my friends have taken my advice and joined the Tech TV crew. They all think it was an excellent decision.

The Morning Show is a video production that broadcasts each day's announcements to the entire school. The kids in the classrooms can watch and take notes about anything they hear. This is a great way to get kids to pay attention to announcements as well as getting the information that they need to know.  Parents can also watch announcements online to stay informed about school events.

I am now expanding and helping The Morning Show in every way I can. Presently, I am a senior producer, the highest rank on the crew. Because of my experience with Amherst Tech TV, I am looking into careers involving TV production. I would suggest that anyone who has an opportunity to do something like this should definitely take advantage of it.
